20-A MRSA §13407(3), as amended by PL 2025 c. 650, sets a $40,000 minimum annual salary for certified teachers and career and technical education teachers for school years starting after June 30, 2022 and before July 1, 2027, so it covers 2026-27. NEA average salary and average starting salary are FY 2024-25. Districts are the 10 largest by the Maine DOE FY26 public tuition-rate reports (publicly funded attending students, K-8 plus 9-12, excluding PreK); Portland and Lewiston appear only in the K-8 report, where they rank first and second. Most Maine districts set pay through union contracts, and each figure comes from the salary appendix of the current contract.
Match the school year, degree lane and credited experience. The published maximum is not a promise of starting placement. Confirm contract days, supplements and eligibility in each district’s official schedule.
